Ingredients

Phyllo Dough Layer

  • Phyllo Dough Sheets – about 12 sheets
  • Butter, melted – 1 cup (2 sticks)

Nut Mixture

  • Mixed Nuts (walnuts, pistachios, almonds), finely chopped – 2 cups
  • Cinnamon, ground – 1 teaspoon
  • Sugar – 2 tablespoons

Honey Syrup

  • Honey – 1/2 cup
  • Lemon Juice – 1 tablespoon
  • Water – 2 tablespoons

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Nut Mixture: Finely chop the mixed nuts and combine them in a bowl with ground cinnamon and sugar, mixing well to evenly distribute the flavors.
  2. Layer the Phyllo Dough: Carefully unroll the phyllo dough. Brush a sheet generously with melted butter, then layer 3 to 4 sheets on top, each brushed with butter. Spread a spoonful of the nut mixture evenly over the top layer.
  3. Add More Layers: Place additional buttered phyllo sheets over the nuts, following the same layering technique. Repeat until there are three nut layers separated by phyllo sheets, finishing with phyllo on top.
  4. Cut Into Cookie Shapes: Using a sharp knife, cut the layered dough into bite-sized squares or diamond shapes before baking to ensure even cooking and easy serving.
  5. Bake to Golden Perfection: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake the cookies for 25 to 30 minutes until the phyllo is crisp and golden brown.
  6. Prepare and Pour Honey Syrup: While baking, heat the honey with lemon juice and water on low until runny but syrupy. Pour the warm syrup over the hot cookies immediately after removing them from the oven so it seeps into every layer.
  7. Cool and Serve: Allow the baklava cookies to cool completely, letting the syrup set and flavors meld before enjoying or packaging.
