Ingredients

Cake Base

  • Your favorite baked cake (homemade or store-bought), crumbled finely (about 3 cups)

Frosting

  • Cream cheese frosting or buttercream frosting, approximately 1 cup

Coating and Decoration

  • Melting chocolate or candy melts (8 oz), assorted holiday colors
  • Festive sprinkles and edible decorations (red, green, white, glittery sprinkles, seasonal candy toppings)

Tools

  • Lollipop sticks (20-24 sticks)

Instructions

  1. Bake or Prepare Your Cake: Start by baking your favorite cake or using a store-bought version. Allow the cake to cool completely, then crumble it finely into a large bowl, ensuring no large chunks remain for a smooth texture in the pops.
  2. Mix in Frosting: Add a few spoonfuls (about 1 cup) of cream cheese or buttercream frosting to the crumbled cake. Stir gently but thoroughly until the mixture sticks together well without becoming too wet.
  3. Shape the Cake Pops: Roll the mixture into small balls, about 1 inch in diameter, using your hands. Place each ball on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and chill in the refrigerator for 20-30 minutes to firm up.
  4. Insert Lollipop Sticks: Melt a bit of chocolate or candy melts and dip the tip of each stick into it before inserting it halfway into each chilled cake ball. This step secures the stick in place.
  5. Dip and Decorate: Dip each cake pop into the melted chocolate or candy melts, allowing the excess to drip off. Quickly add sprinkles or edible decorations while the coating is still wet. Stand the pops upright in a styrofoam block or cake pop stand to dry completely.
  6. Chill and Serve: Once the coating is set, refrigerate the cake pops for a while to keep them firm and fresh before serving or gifting.

Notes

  • Use cold cake and frosting mixture for easier shaping and better structural integrity.
  • Melt chocolate gently in short bursts and stir frequently for a smooth coating.
  • Keep cake pops upright while drying using a styrofoam block or cake pop stand to prevent smudging.
  • Work in small batches when dipping to maintain chocolate temperature consistency.
  • Add toppings quickly before the coating sets to ensure good adhesion and vibrant appearance.
