Ingredients

Bread Base

  • Fresh baguette or French bread, sliced into 1/2 inch thick pieces
  • Olive oil, for brushing

Toppings

  • Goat cheese, room temperature for easy spreading
  • Fresh cherries, pitted and halved
  • Honey, for drizzling and optionally tossing with cherries
  • Fresh herbs (optional): basil, thyme, rosemary, or mint leaves
  • Cracked black pepper, to taste
  • Toasted nuts (optional): walnuts or pecans for extra crunch

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Bread: Slice your baguette into thin, even pieces about 1/2 inch thick. Lightly brush each slice with olive oil and toast them in a preheated oven at 375°F (190°C) for 8 to 10 minutes until golden and crispy. Flip slices halfway through baking for even toasting.
  2. Prepare the Cherries: While the bread is toasting, pit and halve the fresh cherries. Optionally, toss them lightly with a small amount of honey to enhance their natural sweetness.
  3. Spread the Goat Cheese: Once the toasted bread slices have cooled slightly, spread a generous layer of creamy goat cheese on each slice. The residual warmth helps soften the cheese for a smooth application.
  4. Assemble the Crostini: Top each slice with halved cherries. Drizzle a bit more honey over the top and sprinkle with fresh cracked black pepper. Add fresh herbs or toasted nuts if desired to boost flavor and texture.
  5. Serve and Enjoy: Arrange the Cherry Goat Cheese crostini on a serving platter. Serve fresh and slightly warm for the best flavor and texture.

Notes

  • Use room temperature goat cheese for easier spreading.
  • Don’t overload toppings to avoid soggy bread and maintain flavor balance.
  • Choose fresh, ripe cherries for optimal juiciness and taste.
  • Toast bread evenly by flipping slices halfway through baking.
  • Experiment with different herbs or nuts to customize flavor and presentation.
