Ingredients

Scale

Basic Ingredients

  • 6 large eggs
  • 3 tablespoons mayonnaise
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 teaspoon white vinegar or lemon juice
  • Salt to taste
  • Black pepper to taste
  • Paprika for garnish

Optional Garnishes and Variations

  • Chopped fresh herbs (parsley, chives, dill, or tarragon)
  • Dash of hot sauce or cayenne pepper (for spicy twist)
  • Mashed avocado (to substitute some or all mayonnaise)
  • Crispy bacon bits
  • Finely chopped pickles, celery, or bell peppers
  • Edible flowers for decoration

Instructions

  1. Hard Boil the Eggs: Place eggs in a single layer in a saucepan and cover with cold water about an inch over the eggs. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat, then cover and remove from heat. Let stand for 12 minutes. Transfer eggs to a bowl of ice water to cool completely.
  2. Peel and Halve the Eggs: Crack shells gently and peel under running water for easier removal. Slice each egg in half lengthwise, carefully remove the yolks and place them in a mixing bowl.
  3. Prepare the Filling: Mash the yolks with mayonnaise, Dijon mustard, vinegar or lemon juice, salt, and pepper until smooth and creamy. Adjust seasoning as needed.
  4. Fill the Egg Whites: Use a spoon or a piping bag to fill the egg white halves neatly with the yolk mixture, creating swirls or dollops.
  5. Garnish and Serve: Sprinkle paprika over the filled eggs for classic color. Optionally add chopped fresh herbs, crispy bacon bits, or other toppings before serving. Refrigerate for at least one hour to meld flavors.

Notes

  • Choose eggs that are a few days old for easier peeling.
  • Using a piping bag makes the filling look neater and more elegant.
  • Chill deviled eggs before serving for best flavor and texture.
  • Avoid overcooking eggs to prevent grey yolk centers.
  • Customize garnishes with smoked paprika, herbs, or edible flowers for a festive Easter look.
  • Mayonnaise can be substituted with Greek yogurt or mashed avocado for different flavors or dietary needs.
  • Do not freeze deviled eggs as texture and flavor degrade upon thawing.
