Ingredients

Scale

Chocolate Egg Shells

  • High-quality chocolate (dark, milk, or white) – quantity as needed for molding eggs

Fudge Filling

  • 1 can (14 oz) sweetened condensed milk
  • 4 tablespoons butter
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar
  • 2 ounces cream cheese (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Chocolate Egg Shells: Melt your chosen chocolate gently using a double boiler or microwave in short bursts, stirring frequently to prevent burning. Pour the melted chocolate into silicone or plastic egg molds halfway, then evenly coat the mold using a small brush or back of a spoon. Refrigerate for 10-15 minutes to harden, then apply a second layer to form a sturdy shell. Chill again until completely set.
  2. Make the Fudge Filling: In a saucepan over low heat, combine sweetened condensed milk, butter, and vanilla extract. Stir constantly until smooth and warm but not boiling. Remove from heat and whisk in powdered sugar and cream cheese (if using) until the mixture is thick and fully incorporated. Allow the fudge to cool slightly to firm up for easier handling.
  3. Fill the Chocolate Shells: Carefully remove the hardened chocolate shells from the molds. Spoon or pipe the fudge filling evenly into half of the shells, filling nearly to the top but leaving a small border to allow for sealing.
  4. Seal the Eggs: Warm a flat surface like a plate briefly in the oven or microwave. Press the empty chocolate half-shells onto the warm plate just long enough to melt the edges slightly, then quickly join each filled half with a plain half, pressing gently to seal. Return the completed fudge filled Easter eggs to the refrigerator to fully set the seal.

Notes

  • Use high-quality chocolate for the best flavor and texture.
  • Temper the chocolate if possible to achieve a glossy finish that snaps when bitten.
  • Allow each chocolate layer to harden completely to avoid fragile shells.
  • Chill the fudge filling before filling the shells to make it easier to handle.
  • Seal the eggs gently but firmly by melting edges slightly for a tight closure.
  • Optional variations include adding nuts, peppermint extract, caramel, or fruit zest to customize flavors.
