Ingredients

Scale

Dough Ingredients

  • 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast (one packet)
  • 1 1/4 cups warm water (100-110°F)
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon sugar (to activate yeast)

Topping Ingredients

  • 4 garlic cloves, freshly minced
  • 1/4 cup butter, melted
  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped
  • Salt, to taste
  • Optional: 1/4 cup grated parmesan cheese

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Dough: In a bowl, combine warm water and active dry yeast with a pinch of sugar. Let it sit for 5-7 minutes until frothy. Add flour, olive oil, and salt, then mix until a soft dough forms. Knead the dough by hand or with a mixer for 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  2. Let the Dough Rise: Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl and cover it with a clean kitchen towel or plastic wrap. Allow it to rise in a warm spot for 1 to 1.5 hours, or until it doubles in size.
  3. Shape the Knots: Punch down the risen dough and roll it out on a floured surface into a rectangle approximately 1/2 inch thick. Cut the dough into strips about 1 inch wide and 5 inches long. Tie each strip into a loose knot and arrange them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  4. Second Rise: Cover the shaped knots and let them rise again for 20-30 minutes to become light and fluffy.
  5. Bake: Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C). Bake the knots for 12-15 minutes until golden brown and cooked through.
  6. Brush with Garlic Butter: While baking, melt butter and mix in minced garlic and chopped parsley. Once the knots are out of the oven, generously brush them with the garlic butter mixture so they soak up the rich flavor.

Notes

  • Use fresh, active yeast for the fluffiest knots.
  • Do not over-knead to keep the dough soft and tender.
  • Keep water temperature between 100-110°F to activate yeast properly.
  • Brush garlic butter immediately after baking to maintain softness and infuse flavor.
  • Use parchment paper on the baking sheet to prevent sticking and allow easy cleanup.
