Garlic Parmesan Wings

Garlic Parmesan Wings are a crispy, flavorful snack perfect for game day or casual get-togethers. Combining fresh garlic’s sharp zest with the rich, nutty taste of Parmesan cheese, these wings stay crispy without grease. Whether baked to golden perfection or deep-fried for extra crunch, this easy recipe guarantees wings bursting with irresistible garlicky and cheesy goodness in every bite.

Ingredients

Scale

Main Ingredients

  • 2 lbs fresh chicken wings (whole, separated into drumettes and wingettes if desired)
  • 45 garlic cloves, minced or grated
  • 1/2 cup finely grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 tbsp olive oil or melted butter
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper

Optional Ingredients

  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning or 1 tbsp fresh herbs (rosemary, thyme, parsley)
  • 1 tsp baking powder (for extra crispy skin when baking)
  • Crushed red pepper flakes or cayenne pepper (for spicy variation)
  • Smoked paprika or a few drops of liquid smoke (for smoky flavor)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Wings: Pat the chicken wings dry thoroughly with paper towels to remove all moisture, which is essential for crispiness. If desired, separate the wings into drumettes and wingettes to promote even cooking.
  2. Season Your Wings: In a large bowl, toss the wings with olive oil or melted butter, minced garlic, salt, pepper, and Italian seasoning or fresh herbs if using. Add baking powder here if you plan to bake them for extra crunch and mix well to coat all wings evenly.
  3. Cook the Wings: For baking, arrange the wings spaced out on a wire rack placed over a baking sheet and bake at 425°F (220°C) for 35 to 45 minutes, flipping them halfway through for even crisping. Alternatively, deep-fry the wings in hot oil at 350°F (175°C) for 8 to 10 minutes until golden brown and crispy.
  4. Add the Parmesan: Immediately after cooking, while the wings are still hot, toss them with freshly grated Parmesan cheese so it melts slightly and sticks well to every crispy nook, locking in the garlicky, cheesy flavor.
  5. Serve and Enjoy: Plate the wings hot and garnish with fresh chopped parsley or basil if desired. Serve immediately for the best texture and flavor experience.

Notes

  • Always dry wings completely before seasoning to ensure maximum crispiness.
  • Use baking powder instead of baking soda to avoid off-flavors and create a light, crispy crust.
  • Toss wings with Parmesan immediately after cooking for a melty, well-adhered coating.
  • Do not overcrowd the pan or baking rack to allow even cooking and crisp texture.
  • Use fresh garlic for the best aromatic punch; avoid pre-minced or powdered garlic when possible.
