Ingredients

Scale

Main Ingredients

  • 1 lb lean ground beef
  • 12 tbsp butter or oil (for sautéing)
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 1 tbsp grated ginger
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce or tamari
  • 23 green onions (scallions), thinly sliced
  • 812 lettuce leaves (butter lettuce, iceberg, or romaine)

Optional Toppings

  • Shredded carrots
  • Chopped nuts (such as peanuts or cashews)
  • Fresh herbs (cilantro, mint)

Optional Flavor Variations

  • Chili flakes or Sriracha for spice
  • Hoisin sauce, water chestnuts, toasted sesame seeds for Asian twist
  • Cucumber, tzatziki, feta cheese for Mediterranean style
  • Seasoned crumbled tofu or lentils for vegan option

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Ingredients: Finely chop the onions, garlic, and green onions. Wash and thoroughly dry the lettuce leaves to ensure they remain crisp during assembly.
  2. Cook the Ground Beef: Heat butter or oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add the ground beef and cook until no longer pink, breaking it apart with a spatula as it cooks.
  3. Add Flavorings: Stir in the chopped onions, garlic, and grated ginger. Continue cooking for about 3-4 minutes until fragrant and the vegetables are tender.
  4. Season the Mixture: Pour in soy sauce or tamari (and any other preferred sauces). Let the mixture simmer until the liquid slightly thickens and coats the beef nicely.
  5. Assemble the Wraps: Remove the beef mixture from heat. Spoon the hot filling into the center of each lettuce leaf. Add optional toppings like scallions, shredded carrots, or nuts as desired.
  6. Serve and Enjoy: Wrap each lettuce leaf tightly around the filling. Serve immediately with your favorite dipping sauce for best texture and flavor.

Notes

  • Use fresh, crisp lettuce such as butter lettuce or iceberg for the best crunch and sturdy wraps.
  • Drain excess fat after cooking the beef for leaner wraps before adding seasonings.
  • Taste and adjust salt, sweetness, or acidity before assembling to balance flavors.
  • Avoid overstuffing the wraps to prevent lettuce leaves from tearing.
  • Best served immediately for optimal crunch and freshness.
