Ingredients

Scale

Meat and Base Ingredients

  • 1 lb lean ground beef
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tbsp taco seasoning (chili powder, cumin, paprika, oregano blend)
  • 1/2 cup tomato sauce
  • 8 taco shells or soft tortillas

Toppings

  • 1 cup shredded cheese (cheddar or Mexican blend)
  • 1 cup shredded lettuce
  • 1 medium tomato, diced
  • Fresh cilantro, chopped (about 1/4 cup)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Ingredients: Finely chop the onions and mince the garlic to release flavors during cooking. Measure out taco seasoning and gather all other ingredients to streamline the cooking process.
  2. Cook the Ground Beef: Heat a skillet over medium heat and add the ground beef. Cook until browned, breaking it up with a spatula. Drain excess fat if necessary to prevent greasiness.
  3. Sauté Onion and Garlic: Add the chopped onions to the skillet and cook until translucent. Stir in the minced garlic and cook until fragrant, about 1 minute, infusing the beef with rich aromas.
  4. Add Seasoning and Tomato Sauce: Sprinkle taco seasoning over the beef mixture. Pour in the tomato sauce and stir thoroughly. Let simmer for 5 minutes to allow the flavors to meld perfectly.
  5. Assemble Tacos: Warm taco shells or tortillas according to preference. Generously fill each shell with the beef mixture and top with shredded cheese, fresh lettuce, diced tomatoes, cilantro, and any preferred garnish.

Notes

  • Use lean beef to keep tacos light and less oily.
  • Don’t skip sautéing onions and garlic for enhanced flavor.
  • Add seasoning gradually and taste to avoid over-salting.
  • Warm tortillas with a damp paper towel or in a dry skillet for softness.
  • Customize toppings with fresh lime juice, avocado, or a drizzle of sour cream for extra flavor.
