Ingredients

Scale

For the Dough

  • 1 batch pizza dough (store-bought or homemade, enough to roll out to 12x15 inches)

For the Filling

  • 1/2 cup pizza sauce (your favorite marinara or pizza sauce)
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup pepperoni slices

For Topping

  • 12 tablespoons olive oil (for brushing)
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 2 tablespoons grated Parmesan cheese (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Dough: Roll out your pizza dough on a lightly floured surface into a large rectangle approximately 12 by 15 inches, making it easy to roll and portion the dough.
  2. Add the Sauce: Spread an even layer of pizza sauce over the dough, leaving a small border around the edges to prevent sauce from leaking out during baking.
  3. Layer the Fillings: Sprinkle the shredded mozzarella cheese generously over the sauce, then evenly distribute the pepperoni slices on top. Optionally add herbs or extra cheese as desired.
  4. Roll and Slice: Starting from one long edge, tightly roll the dough into a log. Use a sharp knife to cut the roll into 1 to 1.5-inch thick slices, creating individual pizza rolls.
  5. Prepare for Baking: Place the pizza rolls cut-side up on a parchment-lined baking sheet, spaced slightly apart. Brush the tops of the rolls with olive oil, then sprinkle with Italian seasoning and Parmesan cheese for a golden crust.
  6. Bake to Perfection: Bake in a preheated oven at 375°F (190°C) for 15 to 20 minutes, or until the rolls are puffed, golden brown, and the cheese inside is melted and gooey.

Notes

  • Keep the dough chilled until ready to roll for easier handling and a better texture.
  • Do not overfill; too much sauce or fillings can cause the rolls to leak.
  • Roll the dough firmly but gently to avoid tearing and to keep fillings contained.
  • Use a sharp knife or dental floss to slice the rolls cleanly without squishing them.
  • Check the rolls starting at 15 minutes to prevent burning as ovens vary.
