With simple ingredients and quick preparation, it delivers a home-cooked feel with every bite.

Ingredients

Scale

Protein and Vegetables

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup fresh green beans, trimmed and cut

Pasta and Dairy

  • 8 oz egg noodles
  • 2 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese, divided
  • 1 (10.5 oz) can cream of mushroom soup
  • 1 large egg (optional – can help bind)

Seasonings and Toppings

  • Salt, to taste
  • Black pepper, to taste
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • ½ cup breadcrumbs

Instructions

  1. Preheat and Prepare Ingredients: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Cook the egg noodles according to package instructions until al dente, then drain and set aside. Meanwhile, sauté chopped onions and garlic in a large skillet until soft and aromatic.
  2. Cook the Beef: Add ground beef to the skillet with onions and garlic, breaking up the meat as it cooks. Season with salt, pepper, and paprika. Cook until beef is fully browned and no longer pink. Drain excess fat to reduce greasiness.
  3. Combine the Casserole Mixture: In a large bowl, mix cooked noodles, beef mixture, green beans, cream of mushroom soup, and half of the shredded cheddar cheese. Stir well to combine all ingredients evenly.
  4. Assemble and Top: Transfer the mixture into a greased baking dish. Sprinkle remaining cheddar cheese evenly on top, then add breadcrumbs to form a crisp golden crust after baking.
  5. Bake to Perfection: Bake the casserole in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes until cheese is melted and bubbly, and breadcrumbs are golden brown. Let rest a few minutes before serving to set the flavors.

Notes

  • Don’t be shy with paprika; it adds a smoky depth that defines the dish.
  • Drain excess fat from beef to avoid a greasy casserole.
  • Use fresh or lightly steamed green beans for best texture instead of canned.
  • Sharp cheddar cheese provides bold flavor, but mixing cheeses can add complexity.
  • Letting the casserole rest after baking helps it set and makes serving easier.
