Ingredients

Scale

Dough Ingredients

  • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 ¼ teaspoons active dry yeast (1 packet)
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • ¾ cup warm milk (about 110°F/43°C)
  • 3 tablespoons butter, melted
  • 1 large egg
  • ¼ teaspoon salt

Filling

  • ½ cup Nutella

Optional Garnishes

  • Powdered sugar for dusting
  • Melted chocolate drizzle
  • Simple glaze (powdered sugar mixed with a splash of milk)
  • Chopped toasted hazelnuts (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Dough: Warm the milk to about 110°F (43°C) and dissolve the yeast with 1 teaspoon sugar. Let it activate for 5-10 minutes until bubbly. In a large bowl, mix flour, sugar, and salt. Add the yeast mixture, melted butter, and egg. Knead for 8-10 minutes until the dough is smooth and elastic. Cover and let rise in a warm place until doubled in size, about 1 hour.
  2. Roll Out the Dough: Punch down the risen dough gently and transfer it to a floured surface. Roll it into a 12 by 16 inches rectangle, preparing it for filling.
  3. Add the Nutella Filling: Spread a thick, even layer of Nutella over the dough, leaving a 1-inch border around all edges to prevent leaking.
  4. Roll and Slice: Carefully roll the dough into a tight log starting from one long side, sealing the edges to keep the filling inside. Use a sharp knife to slice the log into 2-inch thick rolls. Arrange the rolls cut-side up in a greased baking pan with space between them.
  5. Second Rise and Bake: Cover the rolls and let them rise again for 30-40 minutes until puffy. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake the rolls for 20-25 minutes until golden brown. Cool slightly before serving to allow Nutella to set.

Notes

  • Use room temperature ingredients to help the dough rise evenly.
  • Do not overload with Nutella to prevent leaking during baking.
  • Seal the dough edges tightly when rolling.
  • Keep milk warm but not hot to properly activate the yeast.
  • Allow rolls to cool slightly before serving to keep filling gooey but manageable.
