Ingredients

Pizza Base

  • Pizza Dough: 1 lb (fresh or store-bought)
  • Olive Oil: 2 tbsp (for brushing)

Meats

  • Italian Sausage: 8 oz (sweet or spicy, cooked and crumbled)
  • Pepperoni Slices: 12-15 slices

Cheeses

  • Shredded Mozzarella Cheese: 2 cups
  • Parmesan Cheese: 1/4 cup (grated, for sprinkling)

Sauce & Seasonings

  • Pizza Sauce: 1/2 cup (robust tomato-based with herbs)
  • Garlic Powder: 1 tsp
  • Red Pepper Flakes: 1/2 tsp (optional)
  • Fresh Basil or Oregano: 2 tbsp (chopped, for garnish and optional dough infusion)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Sausage: Cook the Italian sausage in a skillet over medium heat, breaking it into crumbles until browned and fully cooked; set aside to cool slightly.
  2. Roll Out the Dough: On a floured surface, divide the pizza dough into two equal portions and roll each into a 12-inch diameter circle.
  3. Layer the Fillings: Place one dough round on a parchment-lined baking sheet, spread a thin layer of pizza sauce evenly, then distribute the cooked sausage, pepperoni slices, and a generous amount of shredded mozzarella cheese over the sauce.
  4. Assemble the Stuffed Pizza: Carefully place the second dough circle over the filling, pressing the edges together firmly to seal and prevent any fillings from leaking during baking. Use water or egg wash on the edges to ensure a strong seal.
  5. Add Finishing Touches: Brush the top crust with olive oil, sprinkle garlic powder and extra parmesan cheese, then make a few small slits on top to allow steam to escape while baking.
  6. Bake to Perfection: Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C) and bake the stuffed pizza for 20-25 minutes until the crust is golden brown and the cheese inside is bubbly.
  7. Let It Rest and Serve: Allow the pizza to cool for 5 minutes to set the cheese and make slicing easier; garnish with fresh basil leaves before serving.

Notes

  • Don’t overfill the pizza to avoid dough tearing or leaking during baking.
  • Always pre-cook the sausage or any raw meats to ensure food safety and proper texture.
  • Seal the edges well using water or egg wash for a tight closure.
  • Use parchment paper to prevent sticking and ease transfer to the oven.
  • Rest the pizza before slicing to let the cheese set for cleaner cuts.
