Ingredients

Scale

Base Ingredients

  • 1 package (about 1lb) pizza dough, store-bought or homemade
  • 8 oz mozzarella cheese, diced or sliced into small pieces
  • 2025 pepperoni slices, cut into halves or quarters
  • 1/2 cup pizza sauce

Butter-Garlic Mixture

  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced

Seasonings and Toppings

  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning (basil, oregano blend)
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Dough and Ingredients: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Cut the pizza dough into bite-sized pieces about the size of large walnuts. Dice or slice mozzarella cheese and pepperoni into small bits. Have your pizza sauce and melted butter mixed with minced garlic ready.
  2. Assemble the Dough Balls: Dip each dough piece into the garlic butter mixture, then sprinkle with Italian seasoning. Place a small piece of mozzarella and a slice of pepperoni either inside or on top of the dough piece, then shape it back into a sealed ball to trap the fillings inside.
  3. Layer in the Baking Dish: Grease a bundt pan or a deep round baking dish with butter. Arrange the stuffed dough balls close together in the pan, layering them evenly so the cheese melts and flavors meld as they bake.
  4. Bake Until Golden and Melty: Place the pan in the preheated oven and bake for 25-30 minutes, until the tops are golden brown and cheese is bubbling. Five minutes before the end of baking, sprinkle Parmesan cheese on top if desired.
  5. Serve Warm and Pull Apart: Let the monkey bread cool for about 5 minutes after baking to make it easier to pull apart and enjoy without burning your fingers.

Notes

  • Cut dough into even-sized pieces for uniform cooking.
  • Pinch dough balls tightly to seal in fillings and prevent leakage.
  • Using a bundt pan helps with even baking and easy pull-apart serving.
  • Try different tomato-based sauces or pesto for unique flavors.
  • Brush extra garlic butter on top halfway through baking for a crispier crust.
