Tiramisu Truffles

Tiramisu Truffles are elegant, bite-sized desserts capturing the classic flavors of tiramisu in a convenient and shareable form. Combining mascarpone cream, espresso, ladyfinger crumbs, and a dusting of cocoa powder, these truffles deliver rich coffee and creamy flavors perfect for parties, gifts, or indulgent treats.

Ingredients

Scale

Main Ingredients

  • 200g mascarpone cheese
  • 60ml brewed espresso or strong coffee, cooled
  • 100g ladyfinger cookies or store-bought sponge cake crumbs
  • 50g powdered sugar
  • 2 tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder, for dusting
  • Optional: 1-2 tbsp coffee liqueur (e.g., Kahlúa)
  • 60ml heavy cream

Instructions

  1. Brew and cool the coffee: Brew a strong espresso or coffee and let it cool completely; this will be the flavorful liquid that infuses the truffles.
  2. Prepare the mascarpone mixture: Beat mascarpone cheese with powdered sugar and, if using, coffee liqueur until smooth and creamy to form the luscious base of your truffle filling.
  3. Whip the heavy cream: Whip your heavy cream until soft peaks form, then gently fold it into the mascarpone mixture to add lightness and fluffy texture.
  4. Crush the ladyfinger cookies: Grind your ladyfinger cookies or sponge cake crumbs into fine pieces; these will add body and subtle texture once combined with the creamy mixture.
  5. Combine ingredients: Stir the crushed cookies and cooled coffee into the mascarpone and cream mixture, creating a thick, pliable dough ready for shaping.
  6. Shape the truffles: Using a spoon or small scoop, form the mixture into bite-sized balls, then chill them for at least 30 minutes to firm up.
  7. Dust with cocoa powder: Roll each chilled truffle in unsweetened cocoa powder, coating evenly to finish with that classic tiramisu look and taste.

Notes

  • Use high-quality mascarpone: It significantly enhances the creaminess and authentic flavor of your truffles.
  • Chill thoroughly: Firm chilling before dusting ensures the truffles hold shape and don’t become soggy.
  • Balance moisture: Avoid soaking crushed cookies; the coffee should flavor without making the mixture runny.
  • Use fresh espresso: Freshly brewed coffee offers richer aroma and flavor impact than instant varieties.
  • Experiment with coatings: Try rolling your truffles in shaved chocolate or finely crushed nuts for added texture diversity.
