Ingredients

Scale

Main Ingredients

  • 1 bunch fresh turnip greens, chopped (or 10 oz frozen turnip greens, thawed)
  • 6 slices bacon
  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1/2 cup grated parmesan cheese, divided
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • Crusty bread, sliced, for serving

Instructions

  1. Cook the Bacon: Crisp the bacon in a skillet over medium heat until golden and crunchy. Remove bacon and drain on paper towels, then crumble into bite-sized pieces. Reserve about 1 tablespoon of bacon fat in the skillet for flavor.
  2. Sauté the Turnip Greens: In the same skillet with reserved bacon fat, add chopped turnip greens and cook over medium heat until wilted and tender, about 5-7 minutes, allowing the greens to absorb the smoky bacon essence.
  3. Combine the Creamy Ingredients: In a mixing bowl, blend the softened cream cheese and sour cream until smooth. Stir in the sautéed turnip greens, crumbled bacon, garlic powder, onion powder, and half of the parmesan cheese, folding gently until evenly combined.
  4. Heat the Dip: Transfer the mixture back to the skillet or an oven-safe dish, sprinkle the remaining parmesan cheese on top, and cook over low heat until warm and bubbling. Alternatively, bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for 15-20 minutes until beautifully melted and lightly browned on top.
  5. Serve Warm with Bread: Serve immediately alongside slices of crusty bread, pita chips, or crackers for dipping to enjoy the comforting, rich flavors at their best.

Notes

  • Use fresh turnip greens when possible for the best texture and flavor.
  • Ensure bacon is well-crisped to add crunch and avoid sogginess in the dip.
  • Use room temperature cream cheese to make blending smoother and the dip creamier.
  • Keep the dip warm but avoid boiling to prevent curdling of dairy ingredients.
  • Choose hearty, rustic bread that holds up well to the creamy dip.
