This recipe is perfect for busy nights, offering a flavorful, saucy pasta meal with minimal cleanup, suitable for families and customizable to various dietary needs.

Ingredients

Scale

Spaghetti and Sauce

  • 8 ounces spaghetti pasta (regular or whole wheat), broken in half
  • 1 pound ground beef or turkey (optional, can be replaced with plant-based meat or omitted)
  • 4 cups marinara or spaghetti sauce
  • 1 medium onion, diced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 cups beef broth or water
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning (oregano, basil, etc.)

Optional Garnishes and Extras

  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • Additional veggies (bell peppers, spinach, carrots, mushrooms, zucchini) as desired
  • Crushed red pepper flakes or hot sauce for spice
  • Shredded mozzarella or ricotta cheese

Instructions

  1. Sauté Aromatics and Meat: Set the Instant Pot to sauté mode and heat olive oil. Add diced onion and garlic, cooking until translucent and fragrant. Add ground beef or turkey, breaking it up and cooking until browned and no longer pink.
  2. Add Sauce and Seasonings: Pour in the marinara sauce, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Stir to combine well with the meat mixture, allowing the flavors to meld.
  3. Add Pasta and Liquid: Break the spaghetti noodles in half to fit inside the pot and layer them over the sauce without stirring. Pour beef broth or water evenly over the noodles to cover, avoiding stirring to prevent sticking.
  4. Pressure Cook the Spaghetti: Seal the lid and set the Instant Pot to high pressure for 8 minutes. Once done, perform a quick release to safely release the pressure.
  5. Stir and Serve: Open the lid carefully and stir everything together; the sauce will thicken and coat the noodles perfectly. Sprinkle with Parmesan cheese if desired and serve hot.

Notes

  • Use enough liquid to ensure pasta cooks evenly and prevents burning.
  • Do not stir pasta before cooking to avoid clumping and sticking.
  • Use quick pressure release right after cooking to prevent overcooking pasta.
  • Brown the meat well for richer flavor and better texture, though this step can be skipped to save time.
  • Breaking pasta in half helps it fit and cook evenly in the Instant Pot.
